The price of local government in 2017: Town of Normal

The Town of Normal budget was $144.88 million for its 2017 fiscal year, or $13,162 per household.

That's an increase of 7.7 percent from 2016, when the village spent $134.52 million, or $12,222 per household.

Normal has 11,007 households and a population of 54,264.

Since 2001, the Town of Normal budget has grown by 157.8 percent, from $56.20 million. The village population has grown 19.6 percent over the same period, from 45,386.

Salaries accounted for 22.6 percent of village spending in 2017. Normal property taxpayers paid $32.71 million for 384 full-time employees and 275 part-time employees.

In 2001, the village had 50 full-time employees and 20 part-time employees, and spent $21.03 million.
