City of Fairbury Planning Commission met March 13.

The Planning Commission held a meeting at 12 Noon. Members present were Chairman Rick Wilson, Ron Schlipf, Michael Blackwell, Leroy McPherson, Rebekah Fehr, Tracy Taylor, Mayor David Slagel. Also in attendance was City Superintendent Brett Ashburn and Stephanie Meints the Planning Commission Secretary.
Review of minutes from February 13, 2019: Motion by Taylor, second by Blackwell to approve. Motion carried unanimously.
Harlan Knapp is looking to annex into the City to build a commercial truck repair shop. The Planning Commission made a recommendation for Harlan Knapp to annex into the City of Fairbury as a Commercially zoned property per the Comprehensive Plan Map.
Motion: McPherson, second by Blackwell. All in favor
Rick Wilson spoke of the shop local campaign and how he is starting a committee with different groups in town such as, local business owners, school faculty members, church members, and more. This will give a variety of perspectives on how shopping locally will benefit different groups in town. They will work together to brainstorm ideas on how to get the word out about shopping locally and ways to make locals want to stay in town for their goods and services.
