ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 76: Yednock Highlights Senior Shopping Hours

76

Illinois State House District 76 issued the following announcement on March 26

State Rep. Lance Yednock, D-Ottawa, is highlighting senior shopping hours at local grocery stores across the Illinois Valley which have been established to help protect seniors and other vulnerable residents during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak.

“Local grocery stores are stepping up to help our most vulnerable neighbors during this pandemic by hosting special shopping hours for our most vulnerable,” said Yednock. “Seniors and folks with underlying health conditions like heart and lung disease and diabetes are at most risk of having serious complications should they contract COVID-19 and should distance themselves as much as possible to help protect their health.”

Senior shopping hours are specially designated shopping times for seniors and other vulnerable residents to help ensure a reduction of people in one place, but to also make sure that any extra assistance is available for those who need it during this time. Yednock is highlighting senior shopping hours at the following local grocery stores:

-Aldi, located at 2710 Columbus St in Ottawa, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday

-Illinois Valley Food & Deli, located at 235 3rd St in LaSalle, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., seven days a week for elderly and anyone with a compromised immune system

-Hy-Vee, located at 1651 Midtown Rd in Peru, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., seven days a week.

-Handy Foods, located at 604 W. Main St. in Ottawa from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

-Kroger, located at both 2701 N Columbus St. and 301 E. McKinley Rd. in Ottawa from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday

“Those who qualify for the special shopping hours should take full advantage of it,” continued Yednock. “Those of us who don’t qualify for these hours should also take time to check in on our loved ones who need help. That could include offering to help them get their prescriptions filled and to do their grocery shopping to help protect them.”

Yednock is continuing to provide updates to constituents about services and resources provided by the state to the general public and those affected under this crisis.
