McLean County's testing site will remain open through the end of May.
The McLean County Health Department was hoping Illinois state officials will step in to keep a coronavirus testing site open.
Federal funding for mobile clinics like the one at the Interstate Center in Bloomington was scheduled to end on April 10, but it will remain open through the end of May, according to the Pantagraph.
“The Illinois Department of Public Health wants to be able to continue these community-based testing sites,” McLean County Health Department administrator Jessica McKnight told WGLT.org. “We should know more in the next couple of days if that will continue and how that would continue, what it would look like."
Though its’ been described as underutilized, the Interstate Center can test up to 250 people per day. During one recent 48-hour period, 262 tests were administered overall.
Health and Human Services will operate the site through May 31 with the support of the National Guard and other partners, according to the Pantagraph.
As of April 17, the McLean County Health Department reported 83 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and three deaths.
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker enacted a stay at home order back on March 20 that state officials hope will help mitigate the spread of the deadly virus.
