City of Fairbury City Council met April 27.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The City of Fairbury, Illinois, City Council met in open session for a public hearing in support of the Downstate Small Business Stabilization Program and the City’s 2 applicants, J Marie’s Salon and Day Spa and The Spotted Owl.

Mayor Slagel call roll of the City’s aldermen. The following aldermen answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, Gerald Hoffman, Lynn Dameron and Bill Schmidgall. Mayor Slagel called roll for City employees. The following employees answered present: Brett Ashburn, City Superintendent and Nancy Widlacki, City Clerk. Mayor Slagel called roll for business owners. The following business owners answered present: Joanna Meister, owner of J Marie’s Salon and Day Spa and Joni and Dayton Kilgus, owners of The Spotted Owl. Mayor Slagel called roll for any public in attendance. The following members of the public answered present: Adam Dontz, CEO of the Greater Livingston County Economic Development Council.

After roll call, City Superintendent Ashburn detailed the Downstate Small Business Stabilization Program and how J Marie’s Salon and Day Spa and The Spotted Owl could benefit, if awarded. J Marie’s is seeking $13,970 while The Spotted Owl is seeking $25,000.

City Superintendent Ashburn opened the floor for questions. Alderman Kinate remarked about the significant loss of either or both businesses the City of Fairbury would undoubtedly suffer. He also asked what the difference is between the PPP (Paycheck Protection Program) and this program. City Superintendent Ashburn answered his question. City Clerk Widlacki asked if awarded, would the award allow both businesses to retain all current employees. Both businesses answered affirmatively.

There being no other questions, Mayor Slagel closed the hearing at 6:11 p.m.
