Illinois State University department heads are preparing for 10% to 20% cuts starting on July 1 to combat the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the CI Proud website, university officials say they aren't completely sure how much funding they’ll get from the state for the upcoming academic year. In response, department heads are planning backup options. Larry Dietz, who is the university president, told CI Proud that all expenses are on the table at the moment and are being considered.
According to CI Proud, the university faced similar scenarios a few years ago when the state decreased the university's funding.
ISU spokesman Eric Jome said the university will get through the current financial crisis in good shape.
“Even with a greatly reduced state appropriation, we were still able to get through that financial storm in pretty decent shape," Jome told CI Proud. "Overall we’ve been in good shape going into this, to begin with, so that is gonna make it a little bit easier that does help to soften the blow somewhat.”
