Illinois State House District 105 issued the following announcement on May 13.

Rep. Brady negotiates more time for Bloomington’s COVID testing facility at the Interstate Center

The COVID testing facility at Bloomington’s Interstate Center will remain operational a while longer State Representative Dan Brady announced today. Rep. Brady (R-Normal) said that through negotiations with the Governor’s office, he was able to delay this week’s planned closure of the testing site through May 22, 2020.

“Since this testing facility opened in late March, nearly 5,000 local residents have been tested there,” said Rep. Brady. “Thankfully we have flattened the curve, and now as hospitals and surgery centers are beginning to again schedule elective surgeries, local doctors are depending on testing to ensure the continued safety of patients and medical personnel. I’m glad we were able to buy more time at the Interstate Center to allow for other local testing arrangements to be made. I appreciate the efforts of the Governor’s Office working with me on this issue of local importance.”

Rep. Brady said that the Interstate Center testing site reached its 250 daily test capacity this week. He stressed that adequate testing availability will be crucial to reopening our communities.

“We need a localized reopening plan in place based on local data…that requires continued local testing. I will continue to work with our community leaders, health department officials, and others to make sure that when the Interstate Center testing facility relocates to Peoria, we will have other local testing options available.”
