Illinois State House District 76 issued the following announcement on July 2
State Rep. Lance Yednock, D-Ottawa, is highlighting recently expanded Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) emergency relief programs to help families faced with financial challenges due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“This pandemic has put many of Illinois’ families and workers in difficult positions, and the loss of income from business closures has made it even more difficult to afford the essential needs, like groceries and rent,” said Yednock, “These emergency relief programs from DCEO will provide additional assistance to families in need.”
Yednock is informing Illinois Valley residents of DECO programs, such as the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) programs. In addition, $90 million in federal funding will allow the state to increase the eligibility of these programs to 1 million qualified Illinoisans. Eligible Illinois residents and families can apply to receive assistance with utilities, rent, food, and other housing needs, including temporary housing.
“As we continue to monitor this health crisis and take the proper steps to safely reopen our economy, it is very apparent the effects have created trying times for our business, families and communities,” said Yednock. “Everyone is encouraged to take advantage of these initiatives. Although there is more work to be done, all resources allocated to those in need of them most are a step forward.”
