Chicago (54,044 cases) and Cook County (39,452 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,650, while Cook County recorded 2,014 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 1,842,576, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 25,957 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 70,516 were male and 76,196 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,848, while female deaths stood at 3,245.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,163 Asians, 3,163 whites, 1,967 African-Americans, 1,460 Hispanics, and 172 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
