Former Normal police officer has pled guilty to a felony count of official misconduct in charges stemming back to the arrest about a year ago. Brian Williams, 47, was charged with official misconduct for the theft of a thousand dollars from a drug overdose victim that he encountered while on the job.
For the conviction, Williams will spend 1 month in the county jail in addition to probation of 2.5 years.
Last Nov.25, Williams and other officers responded to a drug overdose victim. Shortly afterwards, the family reported that $12,000 was missing from the scene. Williams was caught when the family arranged a fake meeting, in which he was supposed to return the money to them at a local gas station. As a result, Williams also resigned. He had spent 18 years serving in the police department.
Williams is set to begin his sentence on the day after Christmas, and he will also get credit for the 3 days he has already spent in jail.
