Illinois state health officials changed the COVID-19 status of McLean County on Jan. 17 that allows indoor dining.

The Illinois Department of Public Health decision impacted McLean and 19 other counties within Region 2, moving those jurisdictions from Tier 2 to Tier 1 status of the Restore Illinois plan.

“We have been watching the signs for a month now, and our county and our region have made great progress,” McLean County Health Department Administrator Jessica McKnight said, Pantagraph.com reported on Jan. 18.

Southern counties included in Region 5 were also eligible to move into the first Tier.

To qualify for Tier 1 status, a region needs to have a COVID-19 positivity rate below 8% for three days. The level also requires no continual increase in the number of people hospitalized for the virus for seven out of 10 days and a minimum 20% of available hospital beds for three days.

Restaurants and bars within a Tier 1 zone are limited to 25% capacity or 25 people per room and a four-person maximum seated at tables inside.

It also allows for takeout, delivery, and outdoor service to continue under “updated hours.”

Most gyms and other recreation centers can reopen, and outdoor activities can also start back up again.
