Rep. Dan Brady is encouraging all parents to take a stand opposing "Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leadership Standards."
Brady said that this is not what is needed at the moment.
“Schools across our state are already facing serious challenges, including struggling through a teacher shortage and, this past year, creating remote learning procedures to keep students from falling behind during a pandemic,” he said in a statement.
More so, the student themselves are having difficulties in their key subjects and that the change will “take classroom/remote learning time away from core subjects to focus instead on social activism,” Brady said.
“Students in some areas of our state consistently fall below acceptable standards in basic skills such as reading and math,” he added. “It’s so disappointing that rather than focusing on any of these issues, the State Board of Education has instead chosen to create pages of new rules and mandates that prioritize social activism over basic skills.”
The representative is urging concerned educators and parents to contact the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, a committee that is composed of an equal number of Democrats and Republicans.
The proposal will be debated by JCAR on Feb. 16 and the committee can vote to block the implementation of the “Culturally Responsive Teaching.”
