City of Fairbury City Council Met Feb. 17.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, Gerald Hoffman, Lynn Dameron and Bill Schmidgall. Bruce Weber was absent.

3. NONE

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Hoffman, second by Endres to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the February 3, 2021, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. NONE

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

6. Reports of Departments

→ Streets & Fire – Martin Steidinger, Superintendent & Chief was absent 

→ Sewer – Brad Duncan, Superintendent – no report

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent was absent

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief – no report

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent was not able to deliver a report due to technical issues

→ Legal – Steven Mann, City Attorney – no report

7. Reports of Aldermen

→ Alderman Norris – no report

→ Alderman Endres – no report

→ Alderman Hoselton – no report

→ Alderman Kinate gave a shout-out to the Street Department for collecting garbage on Tuesday in the extreme cold and snow

→ Alderman Weber was absent

→ Alderman Hoffman reported an increase in tax receipts compared to last year and thanked the citizens of Fairbury for continuing to shop locally

→ Alderman Dameron – no report

→ Alderman Schmidgall – no report

10. New Business – Discussion/Action Items

A. Motion by Kinate, second by Norris to approve pay request #31 in the amount of $579,729.98. Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall

B. Motion by Schmidgall, second by Dameron to approve Resolution No. 2021-1 appointing Kathy Popejoy as a Trustee to the Dominy Memorial Library board. Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall

C. Motion by Schmidgall, second by Endres to pay renewal membership dues to the Greater Livingston County Economic Development Council in the amount of $7,916. Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall

D. Consideration of a request to install a frisbee golf course at North Park – COUNCIL ASKED THE REQUESTOR, SEBASTIAN MEKARSKI, TO GATHER DATA ON COURSE CONSTRUCTION AND COSTS AND REPORT BACK TO THE COUNCIL

E. Motion by Kinate, second by Dameron to amend Fairbury Police Department Policy #1.3, Use of Force. Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall

The Mayor thanked all the public works departments for their hard work and efforts during the snowstorm and extreme cold.
