City of Pontiac City Council met March 1.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Mayor Alvey called to order the meeting of the City Council at 7:00 P.M. 

The City Clerk was directed to call roll, and the following members of the Council were present: Barr, Giovanini, Eckhoff, Myers, Gabor and Wille.  

Absent: Kallas, Causer, Hicks, and Bradshaw. 

MEETING OF THE PONTIAC CIVIC CENTER AUTHORITY 

Mayor Alvey asked that the record show the same Aldermen present for this meeting as are present for the regular Council meeting: Barr, Giovanini, Eckhoff, Myers, Gabor, and Wille 

Mayor Alvey asked if there was any business to come before the Civic Center Board this evening. Hearing none, he declared the meeting closed.  

CONSENT AGENDA 

Mayor Alvey stated that there were four items on the consent agenda. He asked if there was a need to have any item removed for later discussion. Hearing none, motion made by Eckhoff, second by Barr that the items on the consent agenda be approved as presented. 

A. Motion Eckhoff second by Barr to approve the minutes of the February 15, 2021 City Council meeting. On a roll call vote, motion carried 6-0. Aye votes recorded: Barr, Giovanini, Eckhoff, Myers, Gabor, and Wille.  

B. Motion by Eckhoff, second by Barr to approve the minutes of the February 22, 2021, Committee of the Whole meeting. On a roll call vote, motion carries 6-0. Aye votes recorded: Barr, Giovanini, Eckhoff, Myers, Gabor, and Wille.  

C. Motion by Eckhoff, second by Barr to approve the payment of bills totaling $436,680.49 from all funds. On a roll call vote, motion carried 6-0. Aye votes recorded: Barr, Giovanini, Eckhoff, Myers, Gabor, and Wille.  

D. Motion by Eckhoff, second by Barr to approve the referral of a petition filed on behalf of JC Family Trust and for a lot split and variance. On a roll call vote, motion carried 6-0. Aye votes recorded: Barr, Giovanini, Eckhoff, Myers, Gabor, and Wille. 

REGULAR AGENDA 

A. Membership Renewal - GLEDC 

Adam Dontz of the GLEDC presented to Council what the GLEDC has been involved in the past year, businesses helped with grants, members, and plans for the future.  Motion by Eckhoff, second by Barr to approve the City’s renewal membership for 2021 in GLEDC at a approximately $22,000.00. On a roll call vote, motion carried 4-2. Aye votes recorded: Barr, Giovanini, Eckhoff, and Wille. Nay votes recorded: Myers, and Gabor. 

B. Equipment Disposition - Fire Department 

Motion by Eckhoff, second by Gabor to approve the disposal of a 1997 Chevrolet crew cab and try to sell on GOVDeals.com. On a roll call vote, motion carried 6-0. Aye votes recorded: Barr, Giovanini, Eckhoff, Myers, Gabor, and Wille.  

C. Sewer -Westview Drive 

Motion by Myers, second by Wille to move forward with the Westview Drive Sewer extension project and submit plans to the EPA for approval. On a roll call vote, motion carried 6-0. Aye votes recorded: Barr, Giovanini, Eckhoff, Myers, Gabor, and Wille.  

D. Finance Committee Minutes 

The Finance Committee met on February 24, 2021 and items discussed were the Golf Course Fees, reviewing pricing and determining Staff to make decisions during the transition, but anything major would come back to Council for approval. They also reviewed salaries for non-union members for the upcoming year. 

E. Update on Madison Street Improvements 

Chris Brock gave an update on the plans for Madison Street improvements, including the contacting of the downtown area restaurants and if they would like to serve outdoors, and the starting of lining of the street to change to one lane. As soon as weather is better, they will start with the lane and line painting, etc. 

F. Ice Rink Review 

Taylor Baxter told the Council the first year of the ice rink was very successful, in spite of the COVID restrictions. Total sign ups were 8,715.00 and the learn to skate program was filled to capacity. The rink was closed on February 24, 2021. 

Mayor Comments 

Mayor Alvey thanked all departments for their work on the coming budget and that the Council was 2/3 the way through hearing from all departments.

Administrator Comments 

Committee of the Whole will meet next Monday, March 8th at 6:00 at the Eagle Theater for Budget Review.

On motion duly made and seconded, the regular meeting of the City Council was adjourned.
