Last week in an IL House GOP update, state Rep. Tom Bennett (R-Watseka) announced that over 30% of all Illinoisans have received their COVID-19 vaccine.
As of Friday, April 30, over 4 million people in the state were counted as fully vaccinated, according to NBC Chicago, amounting to 31.64% of the population.
"Among seniors more than 70% of people are vaccinated," Bennett said, "but coronavirus is still spreading and we're seeing more than 2,500 new cases each day. That's an improvement but it shows that the illness is still out there."
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) administers over 92,000 vaccines each week, NBC Chicago reported. The vaccine is available to anyone over the age of 16 at over 1,000 vaccination locations across Illinois.
Last Friday Illinois was ranked 26th in the nation for the amount of administered vaccine doses and had just over 1 million vaccines in its inventory.
Pritzker said the state is making progress in its COVID mitigation and could soon enter the next transitional phase of reopening. Priztker and the IDPH were under pressure in recent months to be transparent and efficient in the vaccine rollouts; in February, 42 local health departments created a report of the issues facing the state's vaccine system, including vaccine availability, inconsistent communication, not enough qualified administrators and insufficient financial resources.
Bennett said he encourages Illinoisans to visit coronavirus.illinois.gov or contact their local health departments to find out where and how to get the COVID vaccine.
