City of Fairbury City Council Met May 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, Bruce Weber, Lynn Dameron and Bill Schmidgall. Gerald Hoffman was absent.

3. Pledge of Allegiance

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Kinate, second by Hoselton to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the May 5, 2021, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. None

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Dameron Schmidgall

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

⮚ Doug Aaron asked to host the 2nd Annual Prairie Dirt Classic Cruise-In on Locust Street Saturday, July 31st

⮚ Diane Pawlowski said, “it’s good to be back”

⮚ Dale Maley reported he is putting up a new historic mural at the new Munz Nature Center

6. Reports of Departments

→ Streets & Fire – Martin Steidinger, Superintendent & Chief reported

• The pool is ready to go

• The sidewalk at the Walton Centre is almost finished

→ Sewer – Brad Duncan, Superintendent – no report

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent was absent

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief – no report

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent reported

• FYI – the City is going out for bids soon for the 1st thru 4th Streets sanitary sewer extension project

→ Legal – Steven Mann, City Attorney was absent

7. Reports of Aldermen

→ Alderman Norris asked if the frisbee golf project was progressing

→ Alderman Endres reported on vandalism at Marsh Park again and thanked Dale Maley for repairing the cut screens

→ Alderman Hoselton – no report

→ Alderman Kinate – no report

→ Alderman Weber – no report

→ Alderman Hoffman was absent

→ Alderman Dameron – no report

→ Alderman Schmidgall – no report

8. Items Removed from Consent Agenda

9. Old Business – Discussion/Action Items - NONE

10. New Business – Discussion/Action Items

A. Consideration of bids received to purchase a truck for the sewer plant – FAILED DUE TO LACK OF MOTION

B. Motion by Hoselton, second by Dameron to approve a proposal in the amount of $4,629.36 from Elite Outdoors for a yearly maintenance program for flower boxes on Locust Street. Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Dameron Schmidgall

11. Other Items for Discussion & Information

A. Bids for automated truck and cans to be acted on at June 2nd meeting – DISCUSSED 

B. City Treasurer Dale Diller provided a State & Property Taxes Comparison report – REVIEWED

C. The Greater Livingston County Economic Development Council greatly appreciates our membership

12. Public Comment

A. Wayne Varner commented on the automated garbage collection process

13. Motion by Dameron, second by Schmidgall to enter Executive Session at 7:14 p.m. Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Dameron Schmidgall

A. Litigation – Section 2(c)(11) – Pending, probable or imminent litigation. Probable or imminent litigation requires specific finding to that effect in closed session minutes.

Motion by Schmidgall, second by Dameron to enter Open Session at 7:22 p.m. Motion carried 7-0. YES- Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Dameron Schmidgall

NO ACTION TAKEN

14. Adjournment – Motion by Kinate, second by Weber to adjourn at 7:27 p.m.
