City of Fairbury City Council met June 2.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, Bruce Weber, Gerald Hoffman and Lynn Dameron. Bill Schmidgall was absent.

3. Pledge of Allegiance

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Kinate, second by Hoselton to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the May 19, 2021, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. 511 W Walnut, 200 sq ft @ $1.75 per sq ft = $350; 509 W Elm, 220 Sq Ft @ $1.75 per sq ft = $385

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Dameron

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

⮚ Jim and Jeanne Munz presented Brian J Munz Scholarship Awards to Amanda Edelman, Rebecca Steffen, Kylie Bazzell, Zachary Bee and Mitchell Bazzell

6. Reports of Departments

→ Streets & Fire – Martin Steidinger, Superintendent & Chief reported

• Pine Street is done

• The sewer plant road is done

→ Sewer – Brad Duncan, Superintendent – no report

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent was absent

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief reported

• He’s still waiting on the new squad car to get delivered

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent reported

• The Boys & Girls Club is hosting a Vaccine Drive June 19th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the circle parking lot (near the volleyball courts) of North Park for individuals 12 years of age and older

• Scheduled a Water & Sewer Committee meeting prior to the next council meeting, June 16th, at 6:15 p.m. to discuss new water meters and software 

→ Legal – Steven Mann, City Attorney – no report

7. Reports of Aldermen

→ Alderman Norris reported the concrete pads for disc golf have been installed 

→ Alderman Endres reported Tony Welch, summer help for the Street Department, is doing a good job

→ Alderman Hoselton – no report

→ Alderman Kinate reported he spoke with City Superintendent Ashburn about the misspelled street sign in Timber Ridge

→ Alderman Weber – no report 2021-2

→ Alderman Hoffman reported he received a complaint from a constituent about getting late fees on his/her water bill

→ Alderman Dameron – no report

→ Alderman Schmidgall was absent

8. Items Removed from Consent Agenda

10. New Business – Discussion/Action Items

A. Motion by Kinate, second by Dameron to approve a request to close Locust Street between 3rd & 5th Streets on Saturday, July 31st for the 2nd Annual Prairie Dirt Classic Cruise-In from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Dameron

B. Motion by Norris, second by Hoselton to approve a bid received for 2021-2022 MFT Seal Coat project from McLean County Asphalt Company in the amount of $28,564.30. Motion carried 7-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Weber Hoffman Dameron

11. Other Items for Discussion & Information posting of 48 hours prior to the start of the meeting.

A. The Council approved a Motorist Awareness Program Proclamation from the Gold Wing Road Rider’s Association

B. The Mayor shared a letter from an out of town visitor expressing displeasure at a sign on private property on the west side of town
