City of Fairbury City Council met Sept. 1.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Gerald Hoffman, Lynn Dameron and Bill Schmidgall. Jon Kinate and Bruce Weber were absent.

3. Pledge of Allegiance

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Schmidgall, second by Hoselton to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the August 18, 2021, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. 508 S Seventh Street; 208 sq ft @ $1.75 sq ft = $364

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 6-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:

6. Reports of Departments

→ Streets & Fire – Martin Steidinger, Superintendent & Fire Chief was absent

→ Sewer – Brad Duncan, Superintendent – no report

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent was absent

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief reported

• The new squad has been returned with equipment installed

• Aftershock is working up a new logo design as an option

• Would like to accept sealed bids to purchase the 2013 squad

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent reported

• After an unexpected delay, the 1st through 4th Street sewer project will begin Tuesday, September 7th

→ Legal – Steven Mann, City Attorney was absent

→ Alderman Norris – no report

→ Alderman Endres – no report

→ Alderman Hoselton – no report

→ Alderman Kinate was absent

→ Alderman Weber was absent

A. Motion by Norris, second by Hoselton to accept the recommendation from Joe Russow, City Engineer with Farnsworth Group, to award the Pine Street Utility Extension project to Kafer Tiling. Motion carried 6-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall

B. Motion by Dameron, second by Schmidgall to approve sewer repair work on E. Walnut Street at an approximate cost of $23,000. Motion carried 6-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall

C. Motion by Hoselton, second by Hoffman to approve a request from City Clerk Nancy Widlacki to attend the Municipal Clerks of Illinois Academy in Bloomington, October 13- 15. Motion carried 6-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall

D. Motion by Endres, second by Norris to name the new street by the proposed Boys & Girls Club Facility Cedar Street. Motion carried 6-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall

E. Consideration of a request from Crazy Crains Bar to host an event on Locust Street between 1st & 2nd Streets on Friday, October 22nd from 8 – 11 p.m. - TABLED

F. Motion by Schmidgall, second by Endress to approve Amendment #1 from Farnsworth Group for the 1st to 4th St. Sewer Replacement Project. Motion carried 6-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall

G. Consideration of a request from the Walton Centre to host wedding guests on a city sidewalk Saturday, September 18th beginning at 5 p.m. – EVENT WAS CANCELED; NO MOTION NECESSARY

H. Motion by Dameron, second by Endress to approve the final plat for the Popejoy’s First Addition subdivision. Motion carried 6-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Hoffman Dameron Schmidgall
