City of Fairbury City Council met Oct. 6.
Here are the minutes provided by the council:
1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, Gerald Hoffman, Lynn Dameron and Bill Schmidgall. Bruce Weber was absent.
3. Pledge of Allegiance
4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Kinate, second by Hoselton to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:
A. Minutes from the September 15, 2021, council meeting
B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills
C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)
D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)
E. 305 E Mirlynbeth in the amount of $255.50
F. Overtime Report

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments:
⮚ Adam Dontz with the Greater Livingston County Economic Development Council spoke about the Back to Business grant program; he encouraged all businesses to apply as the deadline of October 13th is approaching quickly
6. Reports of Departments
→ Streets & Fire – Martin Steidinger, Superintendent & Fire Chief – no report
→ Sewer – Brad Duncan, Superintendent reported
• A significant sink hole was discovered at 3rd & Maple Streets; replaced 40’ of 15” and 150’ of 10” tile and learned where China Kitchen ties in
• The Mayor shared that Superintendent Duncan received Outstanding Operator of the Year award from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency
→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent – no report
→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief reported
• The insurance company declared the squad that hit the deer to be a total loss so all the equipment has been pulled out
→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent reported
• Training on the new software for the Water Department started this week; the new meters and software will definitely be a plus to the City
→ Legal – Steven Mann, City Attorney – no report
→ City Treasurer Dale Diller reported
• The Sewer Long Term Control Plan loan paperwork has been finalized
• He is researching electronic payments for paying bills

E. Motion by Hoselton, second by Dameron to approve a recommendation from the Police & Fire Committee to purchase a ladder truck from Pontiac Fire Department in the amount of $80,000; $40,000 from the fire department account and $40,000 from the general fund
