Sen. Jason Barickman (R-Bloomington) took to Facebook to let constituents know that Ameren Illinois is helping those who have overdue electric bills.

"Ameren Illinois has rolled out a 12-month repayment plan to help customers who have fallen behind on energy bills. The repayment application is open from now until July 31," Barickman posted.

The energy company highlights a variety of energy assistance programs on its website, including Warm Neighbors Cool Friends (certain income restrictions apply), LIHEAP, and the payment plans option.

The payment agreements option requires a 25% down payment, except for those who have qualified for LIHEAP, from April 1 to Nov. 30. A 20% down payment based on the past due amount will have to be paid by those individuals. From Dec. 1-March 31, the down payment required is 10%.

Individuals who start payment plans must still pay their regular monthly bills and their payment plan amount otherwise they will be facing default, and might face disconnection of service.
