City of Fairbury City Council met March 2

City of Fairbury City Council met March 2.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. Call to order – Mayor Slagel called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m.

2. Mayor Slagel directed the Clerk to call roll and the following members of Council answered present: Gary Norris, Steve Endres, Charles Hoselton, Jon Kinate, James Tipton and Bill Schmidgall. Gerald Hoffman and Bruce Weber were absent.

3. Pledge of Allegiance 

4. Motion to approve the Consent Agenda – Motion by Schmidgall, second by Hoselton to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda:

A. Minutes from the February 16, 2022, council meeting

B. Voucher Invoice Register listing the bills

C. Treasurer’s Cash Report (second meeting of the month)

D. Check Register (second meeting of the month)

E. NONE

F. Overtime Report

Motion carried 6-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Tipton Schmidgall

5. Mayor Slagel opened Public Comment and the following persons provided comments: 

⮚ Adam Dontz, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Livingston County Economic Development Council outlined benefits received by City of Fairbury businesses due to the City’s membership in the GLCEDC and asked the council to consider renewing membership in the organization 

6. Reports of Departments 

→ Streets & Fire – Martin Steidinger, Superintendent & Fire Chief was absent 

→ Sewer – Brad Duncan, Superintendent was absent

→ Water – Mike Mellott, Superintendent was absent

→ Police – Robert McCormick, Chief - no report

→ City – Brett Ashburn, Superintendent – no report

→ Legal – Steven Mann, City Attorney was absent

7. Reports of Aldermen 

→ Alderman Norris – no report

→ Alderman Endres – no report

→ Alderman Hoselton – no report

→ Alderman Kinate – no report

→ Alderman Weber was absent

→ Alderman Hoffman was absent

→ Alderman Tipton – no report

→ Alderman Schmidgall – no report

A. Motion by Kinate, second by Norris to approve and pay dues in the amount of $7,916 to the GLCEDC in one payment. Motion carried 6-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Tipton Schmidgall

B. Motion by Schmidgall, second by Hoselton to approve condemnation of 402 W Livingston Street in the City of Fairbury. Motion carried 6-0. YES-Norris Endres Hoselton Kinate Tipton Schmidgall

- Mayor Slagel stated the property tax comparison provided by City Treasurer Dale Diller looks good; video gaming tax is up; local use tax is down a bit 

- Mayor Slagel asked aldermen to let Nancy know if they wanted to attend the Boys and Girls Club breakfast on April 6th
