Senator Sally Turner visited the Full Gospel Evangelistic Center in Lincoln, Ill., during its back-to-school event months before the upcoming November general election.
“A hot day with lots of love for the community,” she wrote on Facebook.
Ballotpedia wrote she ran uncontested during the June Republican primary election and is again uncontested for the November election.
In an Aug. 4 Facebook post, Sen. Turner spoke about her experiences with the Bloomington Firefighters.
“I had a great time visiting with some of the Bloomington Firefighters earlier this week,” she said. “Thank you for your dedication to protecting our community!”
The Courier reported Turner garnered the “Freshman of the Year” award from the Illinois Chamber of Commerce for her “commitment to supporting policies that strengthen our economy and create jobs.”
As part of their biennial Champion of Free Enterprise awards, Turner was chosen by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce as the Outstanding Freshman of the Year.
The award is given to one freshman legislator in both chambers of the General Assembly who has made special contributions to the defense of free enterprise, and the furtherance of economic opportunities for Illinoisans.
“I am humbled to be named the Illinois Chamber of Commerce’s ‘Freshman of the Year’ for my commitment to supporting policies that strengthen our economy and create jobs,” Turner said. “When I took office, I felt it was more critical than ever for our state to help its struggling small business community through the promotion of legislation that would produce stability and provide opportunities for growth. It is an honor to be recognized for these efforts on behalf of the residents of the 44th Senate District.”
The State Journal-Register reported that Turner replaced Senator Bill Brady, who retired. Her husband, Judge John Turner, swore her in.
Turner was first elected to the Illinois Senate in 2021. A Republican, their legislative experience includes serving on the Ethics Committee and Senate Higher Education Committee.
