For the next few days, Illinoisans can vote for the state police car to become a "calendar cruiser."
The American Association of State Troopers (AAST) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to uniting and assisting state troopers across the country. One of its better-known efforts is its scholarship program, its website says. Money for the scholarships comes, in part, from annual calendar sales.
“Help the Illinois State Police win ‘Americas Best Looking Cruiser’!” State Sen. Jason Barickman said in a Facebook posting. “The 9th Annual AAST ‘America’s Best Looking Cruiser’ calendar contest is underway!"
Voting is open online until Thursday. There, people who want to cast a vote for their favorite will see pictures of all 50 state police vehicles.
The top 13 states will have their cruisers featured in the calendar, with the first place state earning a cover spot.
Barickman was elected to the state Senate in 2012.
