Rep. Bunting's 2024 Legislative Survey is set to be distributed to the people of the 106th District soon, giving them an opportunity to share their thoughts and concerns directly. According to Rep. Bunting, "This is another way for me to find out what is on the minds of the people of the 106th District." The survey will include a section for additional comments or questions and can be returned via mail or filled out online on RepBunting.com.

A recent study by MoneyGeek has revealed that Illinois ranks as the least tax-friendly state in the United States. The study found that on average, an Illinois family pays 13% of their income in state and local taxes, making it challenging for businesses to thrive. Rep. Bunting expressed concern over the high tax rates, stating, "These high taxes make it harder to start a business or to keep a business running."

Despite the pressing need for ethics reform in Illinois, House Bill 4119, aimed at prohibiting politicians from using campaign funds for legal expenses, did not advance before the deadline. Rep. Bunting lamented the lack of support for ethics reform bills, emphasizing the importance of addressing corruption in state government, saying, "Illinois is going to have to get serious about cleaning the corruption out of state government if we are ever going to earn the confidence of the people again."

As the nation observes National Public Health Week, Rep. Bunting highlighted the theme of "Protecting, Connecting, and Thriving: We Are All Public Health," emphasizing the collective responsibility in improving public health in communities. Rep. Bunting encouraged community support for public health initiatives, stating, "When we all come together to support public health, all of us — individuals, families, communities, and the public health field can achieve the goals of public health."

In terms of the state's finances, the Illinois Comptroller currently has a backlog of $1,584,908,545 in unpaid bills. This figure, which changes daily, does not include unfunded debts like the state's pension liability, which amounts to over $100 billion.

The news update also includes various Illinois headlines, such as the availability of Driving Agriculture Forward scholarships, Boeing's new plant for pilotless jets, and the upcoming replica of the Tomb of the Unknown in Bloomington as part of a DAR convention.
