BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan University Head Men's Basketball Coach Ron Rose announced the addition of Ryan Schmitt to his staff ahead of the 2024-25 season on Wednesday, Aug. 7.

Schmitt joins IWU following a four-year career that included stints at Illinois State University and Des Moines Area Community College. He graduated from ISU with a degree in interdisciplinary studies this past May, after participating in 45 games for the Redbirds.

At ISU, Schmitt scored 723 points, averaging 12.3 points per game, while collecting 410 rebounds (6.9 per game) and achieving an average of 2.3 blocked shots per game – totaling 136 over his two seasons at DMACC. In his second season, he contributed to DMACC's NJCAA Division II National Title win and was one of two players on his team named to the All-Region First Team. He recorded 69 blocked shots over 26 games, ranking second nationally, with an average of 2.7 blocked shots per game, which was fourth highest in the country. In the championship game, he scored 13 points with 11 rebounds and three blocked shots – marking his third double-double of the national tournament and earning him All-Tournament Team honors.

Additionally, Schmitt was named to the All-Region Second Team and earned Third Team NJCAA All-Academic Team honors along with First Team Academic All-Region accolades. In the Region XI Tournament, he secured a spot on the All-Tournament squad.

Schmitt officially began his role on Aug. 1.
