Illinois Wesleyan men's tennis prepares for duels against Monmouth and Principia

The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team is set to host Monmouth College and Principia College this weekend at the Evergreen Racquet Club. The Titans will face the Scots at 8:45 a.m. and later compete against the Panthers at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 17.

Currently holding a record of 1-1 in the early spring season, the Titans recently secured a decisive victory over Lawrence University with a score of 9-0 on February 3. Earlier that day, they faced Eastern Illinois University but were defeated 7-0.

Sophomore Ian Turnbull from Bloomington, who was named Second Team All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin last season, played a significant role in the win against Lawrence University by securing victories in both No. 1 singles and doubles alongside senior Ryan McCoy from Arlington Heights.

The pairing of Ben Vigneri from Casper and Zeke Cross from Springfield also contributed with a win in No. 2 doubles. Additionally, Thad Dillow from Effingham and Griffin Hammond from Metamora completed the sweep with their victory in No. 3 doubles.

Monmouth College is coming off an opening weekend where they lost to Simpson College (6-1) and Luther College (9-0) on February 10. This upcoming match will be their sixth encounter with the Titans, who won their last meeting decisively last year.

Principia College enters this weekend's matches with a current record of 1-0 after defeating the University of St. Mary (Kansas) by a score of 7-2 on February 10. Historically, Principia has maintained an undefeated record against Illinois Wesleyan, winning their most recent matchup last year.

Match results will be available on iwusports.com following completion.
