Playing its second match in as many days, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team was defeated by Augustana College with a score of 9-0 on Saturday, April 13, in Rock Island, Illinois. This result brings the Titans' overall record to 9-6 and their conference record to 2-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Meanwhile, Augustana improved its record to 14-6 overall and 3-2 in league play.
Sophomore Ian Turnbull from Bloomington, Illinois, competed at No. 1 singles for Illinois Wesleyan. He won the first set 6-3 but lost the second set 6-4. In the super tiebreaker, Turnbull was unable to secure a victory, losing 10-3.
Freshman Thad Dillow from Effingham, Illinois, also engaged in a tough match at No. 4 singles. He claimed the first set with a score of 6-3 but then dropped the following two sets with scores of 6-2 and 10-5.
The Titans will have a week off before heading to Wisconsin for matches against Carroll University on Friday, April 19, and Carthage College on Saturday, April 20.
In singles competition:
1. Hermange Arthur (AUGIE) defeated Ian Turnbull (IWU) with scores of 3-6, 6-4, and a super tiebreaker of 10-3.
2. Gabriel Luna (AUGIE) overcame Ben Vigneri (IWU) with scores of 6-1 and 6-1.
3. Saman Rezaeyan (AUGIE) beat Ryan McCoy (IWU) with scores of 6-3 and 6-2.
4. Timothee Philip (AUGIE) triumphed over Thad Dillow (IWU) with scores of 3-6, 6-2, and a super tiebreaker of 10-5.
5. Nicolas Navarro (AUGIE) defeated Zeke Cross (IWU) with scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
6. Deepak Vayara (AUGIE) bested Griffin Hammond (IWU) with scores of 6-3 and 6-1.
In doubles competition:
1. The pair Hermange Arthur/David Larraga (AUGIE) defeated Ian Turnbull/Ryan McCoy (IWU) with a score of 8-6.
2. Gabriel Luna/Timothee Philip (AUGIE) overcame Ben Vigneri/Zeke Cross (IWU) with a score of 8-0.
3. Nicolas Navarro/Saman Rezaeyan (AUGIE) beat Griffin Hammond/Thad Dillow (IWU) with a score of 8-3.
