FOIA Request Sent to City of Bloomington Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Data on October 25, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Bloomington Finance Department regarding sales tax data on October 25, 2024. The request was made by us at McLean County Times, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The specific records requested under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act include details about sales tax collected from retailers from January 1, 2024 till the date of the request. The information sought comprises data on sales tax collected from retailers by month versus projected figures, the number of active retail locations paying sales tax by month, and names of each retailer along with their gross retail sales reported for each month.

As a media organization committed to transparency and public accountability, we believe access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We aim to provide our readers with an informed understanding of how local government operates and spends taxpayer money.

In line with this commitment, we have requested a fee waiver for this FOIA request as a media professional. We await a response from the City of Bloomington Finance Department and will keep our readers updated on any developments.
