FOIA Request Sent to City Of Pontiac Finance Department Regarding City Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024

FOIA Request to City Of Pontiac Finance Department Regarding City Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at McLean County Times have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The request was sent electronically and specifically asked for a list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024.

The requested records include specific fields such as the business name, business type, and the amount of sales tax paid by each entity. In addition to this detailed breakdown, we have also asked for the total amount of sales tax that the city collected within the specified period.

Access to public records is essential for us at McLean County Times in fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We await a response from the City Of Pontiac Finance Department and will keep our readers updated with any developments.
