The upcoming 104th Illinois General Assembly will feature Democrat supermajorities in both the House and Senate, as confirmed by recent election results. Although final numbers are pending, Democrats have secured enough seats to maintain a veto-proof supermajority. Notably, Governor Pritzker and other statewide officials were not on the ballot this year, nor were Illinois' two U.S. Senators. All 17 members of Congress from Illinois were re-elected.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as your state representative," stated Rep. Bunting. "As we enter this new term in the General Assembly, I will do my best to be an effective voice for you in Springfield."

In economic news, Illinois' unemployment rate remains at 5.3%, according to the latest report from the Illinois Department of Employment Security. This rate surpasses the national average of 4.1% and is higher than last year's state rate of 4.7%. While sectors like Government and Leisure and Hospitality showed job growth, Construction and Professional and Business Services experienced declines.

The Illinois State Board of Education has released its annual report card for schools across the state. The report evaluates elementary and middle schools on English, science, math proficiency, and absenteeism rates; high schools are also assessed on graduation rates. This year's data reflects performance during the 2023-2024 academic year with positive marks in English proficiency and graduation rates but lower improvements in math proficiency.

"This Veterans Day, we pause to honor and thank all of the men and women who have served our country," said Rep. Bunting in recognition of Veterans Day.

Illinois currently faces a bill backlog totaling $2,083,166,675 awaiting payment by the Comptroller's office. This figure fluctuates daily but represents only bills submitted for payment without accounting for unfunded debts like pension liabilities exceeding $100 billion.
