For the first time in its history, Illinois Wesleyan University men's wrestling team has made an appearance on the National Wrestling Coaches Association Regional Rankings. Sophomore Austin Johnston has been ranked sixth at 141-pounds in Region 6, as announced by the organization on December 20th.
Johnston, hailing from Normal, Illinois, currently holds an 8-7 record this season and leads his team with four pins. He began the season at the Millikin Open on November 9th, finishing with a 4-2 record. Johnston later secured a second-place finish in the 141-pound Gold Division at the 8-Man Battles on November 23rd. In his most recent competition at the North Central College Invite, he achieved a 2-2 mark with both victories resulting from pins.
The Illinois Wesleyan wrestling team is scheduled to return to action after New Year’s Day when they will travel to Milwaukee for a triangular dual against Milwaukee School of Engineering and Carthage College on January 6th.
