Illinois Wesleyan University's sophomore wrestler, Alexander Jackson, has been named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Wrestler of the Week. This recognition marks a significant milestone as Jackson becomes the first in the program's history to receive this weekly award.
Jackson, who hails from Harvey, Illinois, and attended Bremen High School, achieved a second-place finish at the Brown Terrell UD Invite last weekend. Despite joining the wrestling team late due to his commitments as a dual-sport athlete with football, he has quickly made an impact in his two appearances on the mat this season.
During the tournament held on February 8th, Jackson competed in the 285-pound category and posted a 3-1 record. He secured victories in his first three matches through pins timed at 0:39, 1:58, and 1:16 respectively. His performance earned him a spot in the championship match where he faced his first defeat of the season but still managed to secure second place overall.
As he prepares for upcoming competitions, Jackson holds a record of five wins and one loss. The CCIW Championships are scheduled for Saturday, February 15th in Decatur, Illinois. Millikin University will host this event at noon in the Griswold Center.
