In a recent update, Representative Bunting addressed several issues concerning the state of Illinois. The capital budget proposal includes a $300 million investment aimed at rehabilitating the Dwight Correctional Center site and other unused state properties to attract private developers. This initiative is part of a broader effort to stimulate economic activity in areas like Jacksonville, Lincoln, Rockford, and Kankakee.
Representative Bunting also highlighted concerns about House Bill 2827, which he believes threatens homeschool freedoms. He encouraged citizens to sign a petition opposing the bill and to participate in legislative processes by completing witness slips.
Another key issue raised was the need for specialized rescue equipment for rural fire departments. Residents are urged to nominate their local fire department for grain bin rescue equipment by April 30.
The state announced plans to borrow $725 million through Build Illinois bonds to fund various projects, including the cleanup of surplus properties and school construction initiatives. These bonds will be financed by sales tax revenues.
During his visit to Iroquois County, Rep. Bunting toured Lyon LLC in Watseka and met with officials at Iroquois Memorial Hospital (IMH). He praised IMH's commitment to community healthcare since its inception in 1916.
Finally, he provided an update on the state's financial situation, revealing that Illinois currently has over $2 billion in unpaid bills awaiting processing by the Comptroller's office.
