The Missouri Valley Conference has revealed the latest Athlete of the Week honorees. Sophomore Ryan Schaefer, representing Illinois State, has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week.
This recognition comes after Schaefer's remarkable performance in the decathlon at the 97th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, hosted by the University of Texas. During the event, Schaefer achieved a personal best by scoring 6607 points across ten events. His performance ranks as the eighth-highest point total in Illinois State history, surpassing his previous best by a notable 263 points.
Schaefer is currently ranked first in the Missouri Valley Conference and fourth in the Midwest region for the men's decathlon. He is also the sixth athlete from Illinois State this year to receive the Athlete of the Week honor. Schaefer joins his teammates, Senior Ariel Atias and Senior Kiley Sanders, in achieving this accolade as a multis athlete.
