Fire departments across Illinois receive equipment grants from OSFM

The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal (OSFM) has announced the recipients for the 2024 Small Equipment Grant Program. This initiative aims to assist fire departments, fire protection districts, and non-profit ambulance services in Illinois by providing funds to purchase necessary equipment for safe operations.

The OSFM reported receiving 347 applications with requests totaling approximately $7.7 million in funding for this grant period. Ultimately, 178 fire departments, fire protection districts, and EMS providers each received grants up to $26,000.

Several departments from the local district were among the awardees. These include the Coal City Fire Protection District, Crescent-Iroquois Fire Protection District, Emington-Campus Fire Protection District, Forrest-Strawn-Wing Fire Protection District, Gardner Fire Protection District, Gilman Fire Protection District, and the Watseka Fire Department.
