The Illinois State track and field team is scheduled to compete in dual events this weekend. Athletes from the Redbird squad will be participating in the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, starting on Wednesday, and the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco, Texas, hosted by Baylor University, beginning on Friday.
This weekend marks the third consecutive year that the Illinois State team will compete in Azusa. The team is also returning to the Michael Johnson Invitational, their first appearance there since April 2023.
The squad embarks on these events following a successful meet at the Normal Invite, where they set two school records, achieved six entries in the top-10 list, and won 15 events.
Sophomore Immaculate Daniel was recognized on Tuesday afternoon as the MVC Female Track Athlete of the Week due to her performance at the Normal Invite. Daniel set a new school record twice in the 100m on Saturday, with her best time being 11.33 seconds. Her time is the fastest in the Missouri Valley Conference and ranks fourth in the Midwest region.
The team also excelled in the 100m hurdles, with Junior Erin Starks, Senior Corrina Courser, and Junior Macee Rivers entering the top-10 list. Starks achieved the fastest time in the preliminaries with a mark of 13.64 seconds, followed by Courser at 13.69 seconds, and Rivers recorded a time of 13.77 seconds in the finals.
Additionally, the women's 4x100m relay team, composed of Starks, Flowers, Miller, and Daniel, posted a top-10 time of 44.87 seconds, ranking as the fourth-fastest in Illinois State history.
In the men's events, Junior Enyinnaya Nwagwu Jr. made it to the top-10 list in the 400m with a time of 46.82 seconds, which stands as the eighth-best in the program's history.
