Illinois State and Missouri State adjusted their schedule due to potential poor weather, opting to complete their three-game series with a doubleheader on Friday at Marian Kneer Stadium. The Redbirds won the initial game 6-2, thereby clinching the series. However, the Bears responded by winning the second game 8-2 to achieve a doubleheader split.
In the opening game, the Redbirds, now holding a season record of 18-26 and 11-8 in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC), capitalized on two standout performances. Abby Knight delivered a solid performance, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Bella Atkinson had a significant impact by scoring two runs and contributing three RBIs, including her first home run for Illinois State. Paige McLeod pitched the entire game, earning the win and improving her season record to 3-9. McLeod allowed six hits and two runs, only one of which was earned, over seven innings.
In contrast, the Bears, with an overall record of 14-30 and a 12-9 MVC standing, found their stride in the second game. Julia Larson for Illinois State managed to secure two RBIs with a 1-for-4 performance, while Delainey Bryant stood out again by going 2-for-4. Hannah Meeks and Hannah Meshnick pitched for Illinois State, yet Missouri State capitalized in the latter part of the game, despite Meeks' efforts over four innings.
Looking forward, Illinois State prepares for their midweek series conclusion against Bradley on Tuesday at Marian Kneer Stadium. The Redbirds have already achieved two victories in Peoria during this series.
