Illinois State women's tennis defeats Belmont Bruins 5-2 on Senior Day

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois State women's tennis team recorded a 5-2 victory over the Belmont Bruins on Friday at the Evergreen Racquet Club. This match marked the Senior Day for the Redbirds, improving their season record to 13-7 and 6-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC).

The Redbirds took an early advantage by sweeping the doubles matches. Juniors Lana Caculovic from Croatia and Silvia Pomarolli from Italy defeated Belmont's pairing of Kliimand and Sokolovic with a 6-1 score. Graduate student Elena Jankulovska from Macedonia and freshman Emma Lindh from Sweden secured another victory with their 6-4 win. The team's final doubles win was achieved by freshman Nicole Iosio from Italy and junior Zoe Limparis from Illinois, ending with a 7-5 score.

In singles, Illinois State secured four wins. Freshman Sophie Marie Lowe from Britain won in three sets at No. 6 against Sarah McElrath, with scores of 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 1, Caculovic defeated Kliimand 6-4, 6-2, while Iosio triumphed at No. 5 in straight sets against Aly Getty 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Nuria Sanz from Spain delivered the Redbirds' final point by defeating Libbie Hamilton in a competitive match at No. 4.

The team now prepares for the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Championships in Valparaiso, Indiana, beginning on April 26.
