Illinois State University’s football team remains among the top programs in the nation following a close double-overtime victory against North Alabama last weekend. The Redbirds, after their 38-36 win at Hancock Stadium, are ranked No. 5 in this week's AFCA FCS Coaches Poll presented by Hudl. This marks the third week in a row that seven Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) teams have been featured in the poll.
In addition to their position in the coaches poll, Illinois State is also ranked No. 7 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll. North Dakota State continues to lead the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll with 25 first-place votes, followed by South Dakota State in second place and Illinois State at fifth. Other MVFC teams listed include Southern Illinois at No. 12, North Dakota tied for 15th, South Dakota at No. 18, and Youngstown State at No. 19.
Illinois State will not play this upcoming week but is scheduled to face top-ranked North Dakota State on October 4 as they begin conference play.
