Redshirt sophomore Madi Valenti of Illinois State has been named the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Goalkeeper of the Week. The announcement was made by the conference office on September 22.
Valenti is the fourth Illinois State player this season to receive a weekly conference honor, following Kaya Durkee and Jade Rehberger, who were recognized as Defenders of the Week, and Rylann Law, who was named Freshman of the Week. This marks four consecutive weeks that an Illinois State player has earned an MVC weekly award. It is also Valenti’s first time receiving this recognition in her career.
During last Thursday’s match against Murray State, Valenti contributed significantly to Illinois State’s 1-1 draw in its conference opener. She made three saves in the second half, including one in the 86th minute that preserved the tie.
Valenti currently leads all goalkeepers in the MVC with 47 saves this season and has recorded at least three saves in five of Illinois State's last six matches. Over the past seven games, she has helped limit opponents to just two goals.
