For the second consecutive weekend, the Illinois State women's tennis team will host a fall tournament at the Gregory Street Courts. This event, called the Redbird Invitational, is scheduled for Friday through Sunday and will serve as a preview of Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) competition. The tournament replaces the MVC Individual Championships that were previously held annually by the conference.

All MVC league teams are expected to participate in this invitational in Normal, Illinois. Each day’s play will start at 9 a.m., featuring four flights of doubles matches and seven flights of singles matches. The first round will take place on Friday, semifinals on Saturday, and finals on Sunday. Doubles matches will begin each day before moving into singles play later.

"We had a good showing last weekend at our hidden dual event and I'm excited for us to build on that and perform even better this weekend against MVC teams," ISU head coach Maja Kovacek said.

In last week’s Redbird Duals, teams dealt with inclement weather on the opening day but finished all scheduled matches by Sunday. Illinois State’s Silvia Pomarolli and Nuria Sanz won their third-round doubles match to conclude the event. Both also secured singles victories in round two, joined by Nicole Iosio and Sophie Marie Lowe who also picked up wins in that round. Sanz ended her weekend with a third singles win in round three.

Tournament brackets will be updated daily on the women’s tennis schedule page at GoRedbirds.com.

GoRedbirds.com and the Illinois State Redbirds App remain sources for tickets, athletic fund gifts, multimedia content, merchandise, photos, and additional information about Illinois State athletics.
