Former Illinois Wesleyan University alumnus Alex Tosi, who played as a pitcher for the Titans and graduated in 2010, served as home plate umpire for game one of the American League Division Series between the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners on Saturday, October 4. Tosi was a member of the 2010 NCAA Division III National Championship team during his time at IWU.

After earning a finance degree from Illinois Wesleyan, Tosi began his career as an umpire in Major League Baseball. He made his MLB debut on May 11, 2019, at Target Field in Minneapolis during a game between the Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins.

As of 2025, Tosi wears number 66 and is part of Ron Kulpa's umpiring crew, which also includes Cory Blaser and Manny Gonzales.

During his four years pitching for the Titans from 2007 to 2010, Tosi had a career earned run average (ERA) of 4.57. His standout season came in 2009 when he posted a record of four wins without any losses over eleven appearances—seven as a starter—and achieved one save. That year he finished with an ERA of 3.02, ranking fourth among team pitchers.

The best-of-five ALDS series between the Tigers and Mariners stands tied at one game each. Kulpa’s crew will continue officiating as the series moves to Detroit for game three, scheduled to begin at 4:08 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, October 7.
