Illinois State Representative Jason Bunting (R-Dwight) recently visited Joliet Junior College, his alma mater. During the visit, Bunting engaged in discussions about the college’s history as the nation’s first public community college and its ongoing influence on students, families, and the local workforce. He also spoke with campus members about upcoming initiatives focused on innovative programs, workforce development, and maintaining accessible and affordable higher education.

Reflecting on his experience at the college, Bunting said, “It was an incredible opportunity to reconnect with the campus that played such an important role in shaping my journey. While there, we had meaningful discussions about JJC’s proud history as the nation’s first public community college and the impact it continues to have on students, families, and the local workforce. We also looked ahead to the college’s future, talking about innovative programs, workforce development initiatives, and ways to keep higher education accessible and affordable for all.”

Bunting added: “It was truly inspiring to see how Joliet Junior College continues to grow and adapt while staying true to its mission of providing quality education and opportunity. I’m proud to be an alum and look forward to continuing to support the students, faculty, and staff who make JJC such a vital part of our region.”

Bunting has represented Illinois' 106th House District since 2023 after succeeding Thomas Bennett.
