Illinois Wesleyan women's golf sits 14th after first round at Golfweek October Classic

The Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team finished the first round of the Golfweek October Classic in 14th place. The tournament took place at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Florida, where the team recorded a score of 323 on the par-72 course.

Junior Nora Cerroni was the top performer for Illinois Wesleyan, shooting a two-over-par 74, which placed her in a tie for eighth individually. Cerroni made five birdies during her round, including three consecutive birdies on the opening nine holes. "Cerroni utilized five birdies in her round, including three-in-a-row on the opening nine holes, as she shares eighth-place." Fellow junior Emily Gastrau finished with a score of 77, tying for 25th place after the first round.

The team leaderboard is currently led by Williams College and Grinnell College, both posting scores of 300. Randolph-Macon and Hamilton are tied for third with scores of 303, while DePauw rounds out the top five teams. On the individual side, Becky Williams from DePauw and Morgan Mussatt from RMU lead after shooting one-under-par rounds of 71.

Other Illinois Wesleyan players include Brooke Erhard, who shot an 80; Julia Henry, who finished with an 84; Gigi Zera, who posted an 88; and Grace Fagan, who ended with a 91.

The second round of the tournament is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 12. Live results will be available through Golfstat.
