Jake Pope, Football Player | Illinois State Redbirds
Illinois State senior offensive tackle Jake Pope has been named the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) Offensive Lineman of the Week for the second time this season. The recognition follows Illinois State's 46-32 win over Murray State last Saturday.
Pope is among five players recognized by the conference this week, joining Cole Payton of North Dakota State (Offense), Malachi McNeal of North Dakota (Defense), B.J. Fleming of North Dakota (Newcomer), and Will Leyland of South Dakota (Special Teams).
Illinois State's offense recorded a season-high 46 points and totaled 510 yards in the game against Murray State. Five different Redbird players scored touchdowns during the contest. Pope led the offensive line, grading out at 91 percent in the victory. He contributed to Illinois State rushing for 172 yards and supported quarterback Tommy Rittenhouse, who threw a career-high four touchdown passes.
Illinois State, currently ranked No. 9 with a record of 4-2 overall and 1-1 in MVFC play, will host No. 25 Youngstown State (3-3, 0-2 MVFC) on Saturday during their annual Homecoming game. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. kickoff at Jay and Lori Bergman Field at Hancock Stadium.
