McLean County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Oct. 12.
Deborah Halperin was named the 2018 recipient of the 22nd Annual ATHENA Leadership Award, given in McLean County. Deborah was chosen among three award finalists, at the Normal Theater and Bloomington-Normal Marriott Hotel & Conference Center at the Leaders of Distinction Awards Reception last night.
This award is presented to someone who exhibits professional excellence, is active in community service and for assisting women in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills.
Deborah is the Director of the Action Research Center at Illinois Wesleyan University. In her role, she facilitates community-university partnerships, assisting her students in real life community based projects. She is engaged in many service organizations, and acts as a mentor and role model for young women on campus.
She states that it is an honor to be recognized as a community leader, while developing young community leaders. But, her work is not done yet, and she plans to be around for a long time.
