McLean County said "no" to one referendum and passed two others on the Nov. 6 ballot.
Voters in McLean County turned down a referendum calling for the Illinois General Assembly to enact a new property tax to pay the Illinois pension obligations. With 100 percent of the votes counted, the Illinois pension obligation had 8,135 votes in favor and 27,654 against.
They approved, however, a referendum calling for holders of elected offices to be subject to term limits. With 100 percent of the votes counted, the Illinois Term Limits Referendum had 33,655 votes in favor and 2,741 against.
County voters also approved "Chenoa Public Library Bonds: Shall the bonds of the Chenoa Public Library District, McLean County, Illinois, in the amount of $1,000,000 be issued for the purpose of building and equipping a new library facility, constructing site improvements and furnishing necessary equipment in connection therewith? With 100 percent of the votes counted, 445 voted in favor and 324 against.
