REPORT OF BOARD COMMITTEES OR REPRESENTATIVES

English Teacher and 2018 Illinois Teacher of the Year Lindsey Jensen held a presentation of her past year serving in the position of ITOY. She informed the Board that Illinois State Superintendent Dr. Tony Smith and Jason Helfer will be here at DTHS on November 1st along with a team from ISBE to work with Jensen and other staff on proposals made by Jensen regarding the dire Teacher shortage in Illinois and across the nation.

Mr. Kaiser reported that Director of the Dwight Economic Alliance Deb Karch has notified him that the DEA will be donating $3,000 towards the speaker that will be here for an assembly on November 6th (Steven Hopkins) as well as another presentation that will be held for Jr. High students on Rachel’s Challenge. This assembly will be presented by DTHS students.

Dr. Jancek discussed the need to purchase a new or newer used van for transportation to Bloomington every day. There is a strong possibility that a new GS student will need to attend Hammitt. There are 186,000 plus miles on the current van that we take every day. He is currently looking into finding a van and noted that Chrysler is the only manufacturer that currently makes vans.

FINANCIAL REPORTS

Dr. Jancek reported that the state owes the district $27,150.63 in late mandated categorical payments for the 2018-19 school year. The state still owes the district $44,717.60 for the 2017-18 school year.

CONSENT AGENDA

Items for consideration on this month’s Consent Agenda are as follows:

1) Minutes

2) Bills

3) Accept Resignation, Alicia Daly, Bus Driver

4) Approve Kristen Lamps, Substitute Teacher

Moved by Berta, seconded by Gantzert, to approve the Consent Agenda as presented. Roll call. All voted aye. Motion carried.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Dr. Jancek reported on the status of the Exploratory Building Committee. Last month the Board asked that he look into what a stand-alone building would cost vs. an add-on to the HS building. Dr. Jancek is still in talks regarding this request and will bring further information to an upcoming meeting.

NEW BUSINESS

Dr. Jancek presented the first reading of Board Policy update recommendations. He will hold a second reading at the November meeting where he will be seeking approval.

Dr. Jancek informed the Board that due to a mechanical issue with the passenger-side “Teacher” brake and how it has to be installed in the Ford Focus that was purchased a few years ago, we will need to purchase a different Driver’s Ed car. The installed brake connection continues to need frequent maintenance and is presenting as a safety hazard. Dr. Jancek will talk to DeLong Ford to see if they can provide a different model of vehicle that we can purchase which will allow the extra brake to be installed without continued maintenance. He will bring information on this to the next Board meeting.

Dr. Jancek discussed the Ford Fleet service program and how we can purchase a new maintenance truck at a very affordable rate. Our current maintenance trucks are 13 and 14 years old and are starting to need costly repairs to run. Since we need at least one dependable truck to pull trailers for the Football and Music programs, he feels it is time for a new truck. The purchase of a 2019 Ford F-250 with a plow and box spreader for salt will go through DeLong Ford as soon as possible. The cost of this truck will be $37,278.00 through the Fleet program.

Moved by Henson, seconded by Warner, to approve the purchase of a 2019 Ford F250 Maintenance Truck, plow and box spreader, as presented. Roll call. All voted aye. Motion carried.

Moved by Rodosky, seconded by Berta, to adjourn the meeting at 6:48 p.m. Voice vote. All voted aye. Motion carried.
