Saturday morning, a fishing derby will be hosted by Senator Chris Balkema for local children. The event, free for kids aged 12 and under, will take place at Heidecke Lake fishing bank area, located at 6350 E. Collins Road in Morris. It is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Registration begins at 9 a.m., followed by a water safety presentation conducted by the Illinois Conservation Police at 9:10 a.m. Fishing activities will commence at 9:30 a.m., where children can compete for prizes awarded for the biggest fish, most fish caught, and a sportsman award.
The event aims to introduce children to fishing and teach them about water safety. "There will be a free rod/reel combo for the first 50 kids to arrive," organizers noted. The event is supported by Grundy County Land Use, the Illinois Conservation Police, and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
