Former state university employee Avery paid in $88K to pension fund, could collect $763K in retirement

Former state university employee Cynthia Avery, who retired in September 2017, saved $88,004 toward a pension over 12 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Avery would collect as much as $763,328, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes McLean County Times.

The projection assumes Avery received $16,044 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 6 years of retirement, Avery will have already received $103,780 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
